Fall into Autumn—WINNER ANNOUNCED!

It’s time to announce the winner of the Fall into Autumn Event Contest!

But first, we would like to extend a huge “THANK YOU” to all our participants, the semi-finalists, finalists, and our judge!

This year, our wonderful judge—Candice Coppola—created a personalized scorecard for each finalist to determine our overall winner!

The Scorecard:

Take a look at what Candice was scoring on:

  • Color Scheme: Do the colors work together seamlessly with one another? Does the color scheme match/work with the selected theme?
  • Originality: Is the inspiration a composition of new and original ideas? Does it take the theme and do something different and unexpected with it?
  • Design Board Layout: Is the board constructed with a clear and concise message as to how the items relate to the theme? Can all items be seen free of too much overlapping?
  • Mixed Media: Does the vision board consist of items that create texture, dimension, and depth to further carry out the selected theme? Or are all the items of one medium?
  • Practicality: Could this inspiration board be used to design a real wedding or event? Is this inspiration board suitable and polished enough to send to a client?

Read on for Candice’s evaluations of each inspiration board and find out who is our grand prize winner!

Aimee Dunn

Inspiration Board: Fall Baby Shower

aimee-dunn

Color Scheme: 7/10
Originality: 7/10
Design Board Layout: 8/10
Mixed Media: 7/10
Practicality: 7/10
Overall Look: 6/10
Total: 42/60

Comments: This would be perfect for a mom-to-be whose favorite season is fall. I especially loved the “ready to pop” popcorn favors and the baby shower themed pumpkin cake. Overall, the colors work well together but I felt there wasn’t enough red to balance out the orange. The party this inspiration board is designed for is fun and light, and I felt that the inspiration board reflected that! The images were clearly defined from one another, which helped in conveying the overall theme you were going for. This inspiration board could definitely be sent to a potential client after some fine tuning– and it was a great effort!

Inspiration Board: Halloween Party

aimee-dunn-2
Color Scheme: 5/10
Originality: 5/10
Design Board Layout: 4/10
Mixed Media: 5/10
Practicality: 5/10
Overall Look: 5/10
Total: 29/60

Comments: Halloween costume parties are one of my favorite things about fall– I love dressing up! This inspiration board would be great for an at-home Halloween party, but in terms of delivering a design for a potential client, I think this needs further polishing. The color story isn’t clearly defined, nor is the Super Hero vs. Horror Classics theme, which I felt could have been carried into the decor rather than just the costumes. The layout feels very cluttered, and may have been better suited if it were singular, stand alone photographs.

Nolwenn Dolivet

Inspiration Board: Inspiration Automnale Wedding

Color Scheme: 7/10
Originality: 4/10
Design Board Layout: 5/10
Mixed Media: 5/10
Practicality: 4/10
Overall Look: 6/10
Total: 31/60

Comments: Fall weddings are ripe with a lot of details and color! I felt that the colors used in this inspiration board worked very well together– no color overpowered another. I especially love the bouquet as it has the right mixture of color and texture. This board needed more details to express the style– perhaps a unique favor, a fall inspired ceremony or food that would have been served at the wedding. The images chose work well together, but I don’t feel there is enough for this board to have a polished enough look to send to a client. With a few added details, I think this board would hit the mark!

Olivia Koetke

Inspiration Board: Autumn Wedding

Color Scheme: 10/10
Originality: 7/10
Design Board Layout: 10/10
Mixed Media: 10/10
Practicality: 8/10
Overall Look: 8/10
Total: 53/60

Comments: The great thing about a fall-themed wedding is there are so many variations of style to use– and this inspiration board illustrates that perfectly. I love that white was a dominate color here as it helps to soften the rich red, orange and yellow tones. I especially love the gold leaf leaves and touch of apple red. Overall, the inspiration boards layout clearly defines each image and I liked that the board was named. In the future, you could easily use fonts that compliment the overall style of the board and work as an added design element.

Susan Vigar—Winner!

Inspiration Board: Autumn Wedding

Color Scheme: 10/10
Originality: 7/10
Design Board Layout: 9/10
Mixed Media: 10/10
Practicality: 9/10
Overall Look: 9/10
Total: 54/60

Comments: This inspiration board delivers a clear picture of color story, style, mood and theme. You chose a variety of details that would be designed for a wedding: bridesmaid gowns, a ceremony arbor, centerpieces and escort cards– which all work seamlessly with one another to deliver a cohesive look. This color story is perfectly balanced with red, orange and yellow and the style of each image, while slightly different, together creates a unique style all its own. I especially loved the white pumpkins and the butternut squash / grilled cheese appetizer! Well done!

Congratulations, Susan! You are the winner of QC Event School’s Fall into Autumn Event Contest!
