Wedding movies make it seem like there is a 50\/50 chance you\u2019re actually going to make it to the reception. But, that is far from the truth! Let\u2019s look past the super tangled love triangle (or is it a love square?). J-Lo doesn\u2019t have time to get married she needs to get to work! You might think that you have perfectly planned your client\u2019s wedding and you can sit at home and relax. Your work is done! But you\u2019re going to have a really hard time competing in the market if you aren\u2019t offering day-of services!<\/p>\n<p>Things go wrong all the time. But if you\u2019re not there to fix them, your client is not going to be happy. The whole point of having a wedding planner is making sure that you don\u2019t need to worry about how your big day will run! So, don\u2019t book your wedding the same day as a wedding you planned because you need to be in attendance to coordinate vendors, handle disasters, and make sure your plan comes out smoothly. Plus, isn\u2019t it going to be super weird when your wedding anniversary is the same day you decided to give up on the man you actually love? Talk about a day filled with weird somber memories&#8230;<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Endless_Budgets_and_Extravagance\"><\/span>Endless Budgets and Extravagance<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Did you see the amazing weddings in <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt0901476\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Bride Wars<\/a><\/em>? Anne Hathaway and Kate Hudson had crazy big budgets! From the venue to the flowers to the dress, these events were stunning and enormous! In fact, most movie weddings seem to be really luxurious. If you think all wedding planning is going big or go home then we\u2019re sad to say it\u2019s probably time to pack your bags. Of course, you can plan huge events, but not every wedding is going to be as big as the ones you see on the big screen.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blog.qceventplanning.com\/2018\/02\/know-handle-7-event-budget-busters\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Making a budget<\/a> with your clients and sticking to it is one of the hardest parts about being a wedding planner! Your client might want everything, but it\u2019s your job to remain realistic, manage expectations, and stay on budget! That means managing your expectations as well. So you tell your client what things cost and how things will be and then you go and execute it. It doesn\u2019t matter that Steve Martin is freaking out and you haven\u2019t really asked the bride how she envisioned her day because you don\u2019t need their opinions. Except in real life, you totally do. The wedding planner in <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt0101862\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Father of the Bride<\/a><\/em> is obviously meant to be funny, but it also brings up an important point\u2026<\/p>\n<p>You\u2019re not always going to be doing what you think is best. You\u2019re not always going to be designing things that match your aesthetic preferences. And you\u2019re certainly not going to be able to walk into a room and start telling your clients \u201cthis is what things cost.\u201d Communication is so important in the wedding planning industry. Walking all over your clients is a great way to develop a bad reputation and lose your clients. So don\u2019t look to Martin Short as your event coordination role model!<\/p>\n<p>There are <em>so many<\/em> wedding movies out there and although they are extremely entertaining, you should take them with a grain of salt. The role of the wedding planner isn\u2019t usually at the forefront of films but when it does creep in, we usually aren\u2019t thinking how accurate it is. So, keep on watching all the rom-coms and next time you\u2019re watching one with a wedding, test your knowledge.
