You&#8217;re in charge of orchestrating all the elements of a beautiful and seamless event. From coordinating vendors to putting together <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.qceventplanning.com\/2015\/04\/dos-and-donts-of-event-decor-centerpieces-ideas\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">centerpieces<\/a>. Naturally, you\u2019ll have to do some grunt work, too. On-site, you are likely running around all over the event space. You\u2019ll have to coordinate all the logistics while keeping everyone happy \u2013guests, clients, and other event professionals.<\/p>\n<p>An event planner is definitely <em>not <\/em>the star of the show. So if you are <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.qceventplanning.com\/2016\/02\/top-7-myths-about-event-planning\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">expecting glamour and prestige<\/a> in event planner jobs, look elsewhere. Before accepting any event planner jobs, do your due diligence in vetting the job description. The last thing you want is taking on a client that you can\u2019t succeed with. If you find yourself in a situation with an impossible timeline, be honest with your client. Manage their expectations before committing to something that you may regret later.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"We_arent_experts_in_every_facet_of_the_event_planning_industry\"><\/span>We aren\u2019t experts in every facet of the event planning industry<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>It will take many years of experience before you get the full scope of what goes into every element of event planning. And it\u2019s okay if you don\u2019t have all of the answers!<\/p>\n<p>Let\u2019s say you have a client who asks you to handle the advertising and promotion for a large-scale fundraiser. This makes you ultimately responsible for generating ticket sale revenue. If you don\u2019t have enough experience in this area to be successful, <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.qceventplanning.com\/2016\/05\/art-saying-no\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">it\u2019s okay to say no<\/a> and focus on what you <em>can <\/em>offer. Have confidence in yourself, and know that you are being hired for a very specific skillset\u2014planning, organizing and designing a flawless event. While you should always strive to provide the <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.qceventplanning.com\/2017\/01\/wow-event-planning-clients-customer-service\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">best client service<\/a> possible, don\u2019t stretch yourself too thin. Spending too much time completing menial tasks means less time and attention to tasks more worthy of your skillset.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"An_event_planning_career_is_rewarding_but_its_not_a_relaxing_laid_back_career\"><\/span>An event planning career is rewarding, but it\u2019s not a relaxing, laid back career<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong>Year after year, I see \u201cevent planner\u201d listed as one of the most <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2019\/03\/07\/the-most-stressful-jobs-in-america.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">stressful jobs<\/a>. While we don\u2019t face life-or-death situations everyday (like a firefighter, pilot, or police officer would), the work we do<em> is <\/em>incredibly stressful. Throughout all of my professional experiences, there\u2019s a \u201cget it done or fail\u201d mentality. While there are certainly \u201cdown\u201d times, being an event planner is a demanding job. Expect to have lots of work to juggle and always-looming deadlines on the horizon.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Be_honest_with_your_clients\"><\/span>Be honest with your clients<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>If you are starting your career in event planning, make sure you know what you\u2019re getting into. Your client expects you to literally put together every centerpiece, place them on the tables, set each chair at each place setting, and tear down the entire room on your own\u2026 all within 8 hours. Be honest about how much you can get done on your own. And don\u2019t hesitate to let them know if your rate changes because of all these additional tasks. Tell them what you need from them to get it done, clarify expectations, and charge the appropriate fees.<\/p>\n<p>Event planners are energetic, creative, organized, and scrappy!
