This means you don\u2019t <em>need<\/em> any specific type of qualification, degree, or license to get a job as a professional wedding planner.\u00a0 Becoming <a href=\"https:\/\/www.qceventplanning.com\/online-event-courses\/event-and-wedding-planning\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">certified in wedding planning<\/a>, however, is a <em>huge<\/em> reassurance to your clients that you know what you\u2019re doing.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-17733\" src=\"https:\/\/www.qceventplanning.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/Copy-2-of-Event-in-post-135x135-1.jpg\" alt=\"wedding planner taking bride requests\" \/><\/p>\n<p>If you worry about how you\u2019ll land your first wedding planning job, just imagine how much harder it would be if you didn\u2019t even have a certification or professional designation to your name!<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"2_Use_your_Network\"><\/span>2: Use your Network<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Do you have friends, family, or acquaintances who recently got engaged? Could they use a wedding planner, even one to help plan <em>part<\/em> of their wedding? Contacts you have some sort of association with are definitely easier targets for your first wedding planner jobs.\u00a0 Approach them with a <em>soft<\/em> pitch and see if they\u2019d be willing to give you a chance!<\/p>\n<p>Important notes:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The more of a connection you have with the engaged couple, the less awkward it will be to reach out to them. Try your luck with family and close friends before you attempt to reach out to your old high school volleyball teammate.<\/li>\n<li>Remain professional at <em>all<\/em> Your goal is to land your first client, and for them to be a reference after their wedding.<\/li>\n<li>Don\u2019t act entitled: the couple doesn\u2019t <em>owe<\/em> you anything. They\u2019re allowed to refuse your offer or go in a different direction.<\/li>\n<li>Accept No for an answer: don\u2019t act upset, don\u2019t push back. But to start, your portfolio can feature some of your more visual school assignments, volunteer work, internships you\u2019ve done, etc.<\/p>\n<p>Running a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.qceventplanning.com\/blog\/2014\/09\/event-photo-shoot\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">styled photo shoot<\/a> is also an excellent way to get portfolio-quality photos <em>and<\/em> showcase your abilities to plan and execute an event with multiple vendors including florists, decorators, caterers, photographers, makeup artists, etc.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"4_Have_a_Strong_Brand\"><\/span>4: Have a Strong Brand<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Your brand is how you\u2019ll sell your services. If you have a polished professional website that hosts a nice-looking <a href=\"https:\/\/www.qceventplanning.com\/blog\/2017\/08\/7-musts-include-event-planning-portfolio\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">portfolio<\/a>, and you present yourself as a confident and certified wedding planner, most clients won\u2019t even know that you\u2019ve never had a wedding planning job before!<\/p>\n<p>Your online brand should reflect the personalities of the clients you\u2019re looking to attract.\u00a0 Are you looking to come off as sophisticated? Fun? Environmentally-friendly? But it should <em>also<\/em> (and arguably more importantly) be a website that future clients can <em>use<\/em> to effectively gauge your abilities and connect with you.<\/p>\n<p>You won\u2019t land a wedding planning job without getting potential clients to contact you. And very few people will contact you unless your website contains the following:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>A clear description of your services:<\/strong> Don\u2019t be vague and don\u2019t leave anything up to interpretation. Be very clear about what services you can offer your clients. Use bullet lists, samples of timetables, etc.\u00a0 This is where secondary website pages are incredibly handy: make the information useful for people who are looking for it, but don\u2019t make it overwhelming for those who aren\u2019t.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Your prices:<\/strong> Clients <em>hate<\/em> not seeing prices on your website! Yes, wedding planning is an extremely customized service\u2026 but you can at least give price ranges based on the types of services clients are looking for.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Pictures of your work:<\/strong> Your portfolio should be displayed proudly on your site<\/li>\n<li><strong>A contact form:<\/strong> Hosting your phone number and email address on your site is fine. But having a \u201ccontact us\u201d form that clients can fill out will greatly increase the amount of contacts you receive! (Fair warning: you\u2019ll get a lot of spam from this form, but that\u2019s a low price to pay for extra potential clients.)<\/li>\n<li><strong>An easy way to schedule a consultation:<\/strong> Let\u2019s face it. These days more and more people loathe having to get on the phone with a business. While a \u201ccontact form\u201d on your website is wonderful, having an easy method for clients to actually <em>book<\/em> a consultation with you via your website is even better! There are many free or almost-free tools online that can help you make this happen.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"6_Dont_give_up\"><\/span>6: Don\u2019t give up<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"672\" height=\"448\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-17739\" src=\"https:\/\/www.qceventplanning.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/Copy-of-Event-in-post-135x135-2.jpg\" alt=\"wedding planner busy schedule\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.qceventplanning.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/Copy-of-Event-in-post-135x135-2.jpg 672w, https:\/\/www.qceventplanning.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/Copy-of-Event-in-post-135x135-2-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 672px) 100vw, 672px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>It takes time to establish a new business. Most wedding planners will only have 2 or 3 jobs in their entire first year of business.\u00a0 Focus on improving your brand, making connections, and looking at other areas that you can polish.\u00a0 While you\u2019re hunting for your first job, don\u2019t be afraid to explore other avenues. Look for internships or volunteer work that can also help make you more appealing to potential clients.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Bonus_7_Listen_to_feedback\"><\/span>Bonus #7: Listen to feedback!<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>If you\u2019re getting website visitors, or you have many connections but none of them are willing to hire you, see if you can get some honest feedback about why they went in a different direction.
