However, the outlook for a 7%+ growth rate over the next 10 years is still looking good. In other words, the demand for event planners is on the rise &#8211; and rising faster than expected. This means higher wages for professional event planners, and especially for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.qceventplanning.com\/blog\/2015\/02\/building-event-planner-portfolio\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">very experienced<\/a> ones!<\/p>\n<p>According to our research of job postings, a professional event planner in a large US city (with at least 1 year of job experience) can expect a median salary of $58,000 USD in 2020. On the high end of the range, this same event planner can have a salary up to $127,000 USD! Keep in mind, of course, that this will vary based on your location.<\/p>\n<h3>Increasing your rates<\/h3>\n<p>Whether you&#8217;re already a professional event planner or just breaking into the field, it&#8217;s good to know that there are many ways you can increase your rates. This means you can <a href=\"https:\/\/www.qceventplanning.com\/blog\/2017\/07\/much-charge-event-planning-services\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">charge more<\/a> for individual jobs, or earn a higher hourly salary.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Experience<\/strong> is still the number one determining factor when it comes to your salary (with the possible exception of location). Not all experience is created equal, either. If you\u2019re just launching your career, take special care to select the jobs that will be the most beneficial to your portfolio later on!<\/li>\n<li><strong>Your job title <\/strong>is also a big one when it comes to the rates you can charge for your services. If you\u2019re looking at job listings, job titles such as \u201cevent manager\u201d or \u201cdirector of events\u201d will have a much higher salary than jobs listed as \u201cevent planner\u201d. Of course, these usually call for more specialized education\/experience.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Your education<\/strong> is quite important, especially in your first few years when you don\u2019t have tons of experience to fall back on. Both clients and employers are much more likely to hire an event planner at market rates if they have a guarantee that the planner\u2019s been <a href=\"https:\/\/www.qceventplanning.com\/about-qc\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">properly trained<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.qceventplanning.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/Event-in-post-135x135-1.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-18025\" src=\"https:\/\/www.qceventplanning.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/Event-in-post-135x135-1.png\" alt=\"female studying at desk on laptop\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"More_Jobs\"><\/span>More Jobs<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Millennials are getting married, having kids, and buying houses. These days, they\u2019re among the group that\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.qceventplanning.com\/blog\/2019\/04\/how-to-make-it-millennial-become-an-event-planner\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">most likely to hire<\/a> professional event planners for their special occasions. Not to mention, all the baby boomers who are retiring from their jobs (hello, retirement party central!).\u00a0 Bottom line: it\u2019s a great time to be an event and wedding planner.<\/p>\n<p>There is plenty of work to go around, so you don\u2019t have to fight other planners for contracts or clients.\u00a0 This also means you can set fair prices for you work, and have more freedom to choose the clients and jobs that will contribute the most to your portfolio.<\/p>\n<p>You can best prepare yourself and your planning business by taking the following into consideration:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Your <a href=\"https:\/\/www.qceventplanning.com\/blog\/2019\/11\/the-7-questions-event-planners-should-ask-every-client\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">client consultations<\/a> will be more important than ever. Be sure you\u2019re prepared with questions for potential clients, so that you can both be assured you\u2019ll have a good working relationship.<\/li>\n<li>Be sure your event planner <a href=\"https:\/\/www.qceventplanning.com\/blog\/2019\/11\/event-planner-contract-dos-and-donts\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">contract templates<\/a> are in good shape, and are ready to be shared with (and scrutinized by!) potential clients.<\/li>\n<li>Take a few minutes to go over your website and social media feeds. Be sure there are no broken links, outdated images, outdated content, and\/or other concerns that need to be addressed.<\/li>\n<li>Consider whether your business is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.qceventplanning.com\/blog\/2015\/11\/taking-your-bu-or-assistants\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">ready to hire<\/a> on another planner. Maybe even take on an intern. Even if you\u2019re just starting out, pay close attention to the event planning landscape in your area. Odds are, there\u2019s a section of the industry that\u2019s being under-served.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>If you\u2019re in a middle-class area with a booming real-estate market, expect to see an influx of newlyweds in 2020. You can probably make a killing <a href=\"https:\/\/www.qceventplanning.com\/blog\/2019\/11\/how-to-land-your-first-wedding-planner-job\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">expanding into weddings<\/a> and\/or children\u2019s parties.<\/li>\n<li>If you\u2019re in an area with an aging population, you can probably offer specialized retirement party services for a fair chunk of change.<\/li>\n<li>Event planners in or near a downtown core should gear up for a year filled with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.qceventplanning.com\/blog\/2019\/12\/the-difference-between-event-planning-and-event-management\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">corporate events<\/a>.
