I don\u2019t know about you, but I\u2019ve personally lost track of which Quarantine Day I\u2019m on at this point. There are times when it <em>feels <\/em>like it\u2019s practically been forever. While there\u2019s much for me to be grateful for, even during this difficult time, I\u2019ll admit that not knowing how long this whole social distancing thing is going to last is becoming a bit taxing.<\/p>\n<p>Lately, I\u2019ve found myself struggling a bit. Maybe there\u2019s some of you out there who can relate.<\/p>\n<p>Perhaps you\u2019re working on the front-lines, and have to risk your health each day because you\u2019re considered an essential service. Maybe you\u2019re able to work from home, or have kids to look after, or are doing schooling to earn your <a href=\"\/online-event-courses\/event-and-wedding-planning\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">event planning certificate<\/a> \u2013 but you haven\u2019t really been making much time for <em>yourself<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Whatever your circumstances may be, we\u2019re all facing our own struggles, thanks to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.who.int\/emergencies\/diseases\/novel-coronavirus-2019\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">COVID-19<\/a>. With so much time at home \u2013 and so little time being around others \u2013 it can be easy for our mental health to take a bit of a downward slide.<\/p>\n<p>Sometimes, it helps to have someone else there to motivate you; push and remind you to do things that are good for you, that you may have forgotten to do for yourself.<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s why we\u2019re here today. That means that the weather is taking a turn for the better. Now is the perfect time for us to take advantage of it.<\/p>\n<p>Fresh air is the perfect soul food\u2026 and this is a FACT! There are a ton of reasons why it\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.huffingtonpost.ca\/entry\/tk-ways-fresh-air-impacts_0_n_5648164\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">scientifically proven<\/a> to be good for your health, such as:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>It can help boost your immune system<\/li>\n<li>It lowers your chances of breathing in harmful pollutants<\/li>\n<li>The smell of fresh air increases happiness and decreases stress<\/li>\n<li>It increases energy in up to 90% of people<\/li>\n<li>And so much more!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>It doesn\u2019t have to be complicated, either! In fact, you barely need to put in any effort in order to reap maximum benefits. It can be as simple as sitting in your backyard, or on your balcony, for as little as <a href=\"https:\/\/camillestyles.com\/wellness\/why-you-should-go-outside-at-least-20-minutes-a-day\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">20 minutes<\/a> each day.<\/p>\n<p>If you have an urge to stretch your legs, you can also get outside and go for a walk! in most areas, this IS still an option. Just ensure that you keep a minimum of 6 feet away from anyone who crosses your path. If someone else lives in your immediate environment (such as a partner, a child, etc.), they can always accompany you!<\/p>\n<p><strong>Important Note<\/strong>:\u00a0 If you\u2019re in a hard-hit area, you might be under a strict stay-at-home order that prohibits going outside for any non-essential reason.\u00a0 If that\u2019s the case where you live, <em>please<\/em> follow those directives. As much as they suck, they\u2019re put in place to help save your life.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Do_a_bit_of_exercise\"><\/span>Do a bit of exercise<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Being stuck at home can make us stagnant. If we aren\u2019t finding reasons to stay active, it can become easy for all of us to turn into couch potatoes. While we aren\u2019t saying that you suddenly need to get into CrossFit or download P90X, we are saying that <em>something <\/em>is better than nothing.<\/p>\n<p>It can be as simple as going for that walk we just talked about! Even by simply committing yourself to 20 minutes of exercise every day, you\u2019ll be doing your body a world of good.<\/p>\n<p>But hey! There may also be plenty of us who said we wanted to work on our fitness, as part of our 2020 New Year\u2019s resolution (then sort of forgot about it shortly afterwards). Why not utilize all this down time to <em>finally <\/em>start working towards this goal?<\/p>\n<p>Some easy suggestions for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nerdfitness.com\/blog\/beginner-body-weight-workout-burn-fat-build-muscle\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">home workouts<\/a> that don\u2019t require any equipment include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Push-ups<\/li>\n<li>Sit-ups<\/li>\n<li>Planks<\/li>\n<li>Squats<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>If you want to throw in some weights but don\u2019t own any dumbbells, use some cans from your pantry! If you have a jump-rope lying around, this makes for a wicked cardio exercise!<\/p>\n<p>Keep in mind that for some people, exercise can be difficult \u2013 be it mentally or physically. So, stick to your own pace. Do what makes YOU comfortable! Even if you only have it in you to exercise just once per week, that\u2019s still an AWESOME effort, and it <em>will <\/em>positively benefit your mental health overall!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.qceventplanning.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/Copy-of-Event-In-Post-Event-Logo-Overlay-135x135-33.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"672\" height=\"448\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-18380\" src=\"https:\/\/www.qceventplanning.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/Copy-of-Event-In-Post-Event-Logo-Overlay-135x135-33.png\" alt=\"\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.qceventplanning.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/Copy-of-Event-In-Post-Event-Logo-Overlay-135x135-33.png 672w, https:\/\/www.qceventplanning.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/Copy-of-Event-In-Post-Event-Logo-Overlay-135x135-33-300x200.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 672px) 100vw, 672px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Put_the_electronics_away\"><\/span>Put the electronics away<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>I\u2019m personally terrible when it comes to detaching from my phone, so I have a goal to work on that. Studies have shown that staring too much at screens can <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.innerdrive.co.uk\/6-reasons-to-put-your-phone-away\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">heighten anxiety<\/a> and cause feelings of loneliness. In the midst of social distancing, this is the LAST thing we want for ourselves!<\/p>\n<p>While you don\u2019t need to cut out your electronic devices completely, one way to support your mental health is to try and unplug from them at least once a day, even if just for a short period of time. Fill this time by doing something that instead stimulates your brain and\/or keeps your hands busy!<\/p>\n<p>For example: you can do a puzzle, play an instrument, bake a recipe, or learn a dance routine. If there\u2019s a hobby you\u2019ve always been interested in trying, now\u2019s the perfect time to take it up! One benefit to being in the privacy of your own home is that you don\u2019t need to feel shy.<\/p>\n<p>No one\u2019s watching, so get as creative and crazy as you want!<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Stay_connected_with_your_loved_ones\"><\/span>Stay connected with your loved ones<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>We\u2019re all in the same boat right now. Chances are, your friends and family miss you just as much as you miss them. Like you, they\u2019re probably pretty bored at times, and can also use the company. While texting and phone calls are great, there\u2019s something comforting about seeing the person\u2019s face.<\/p>\n<p>If possible, try to video chat with a loved one on a semi-regular basis. At a time when we can\u2019t physically be with them, it can make for a comforting substitute.<\/p>\n<p>People are also finding innovative ways to connect with others while everyone\u2019s self-isolating. Can\u2019t get together for a movie night with your best friend? Why not FaceTime and pick a film on Netflix that you can both watch from your own homes! My BFF and I had a virtual movie night recently, and we actually had a lot of fun.<\/p>\n<p>There are also tons of online games that can be played in groups, regardless of whether you\u2019re physically together or not. My roommates and I invested in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jackboxgames.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jackbox Games<\/a>, which I highly recommend to everyone! It comes with a variety of hilarious online group games that <em>anyone <\/em>can join in on and play (so long as they have access to the internet at home).<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.qceventplanning.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/Copy-of-Event-In-Post-Event-Logo-Overlay-135x135-34.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"672\" height=\"448\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-18381\" src=\"https:\/\/www.qceventplanning.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/Copy-of-Event-In-Post-Event-Logo-Overlay-135x135-34.png\" alt=\"\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.qceventplanning.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/Copy-of-Event-In-Post-Event-Logo-Overlay-135x135-34.png 672w, https:\/\/www.qceventplanning.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/Copy-of-Event-In-Post-Event-Logo-Overlay-135x135-34-300x200.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 672px) 100vw, 672px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Focus_on_something_exciting_in_the_future\"><\/span>Focus on something exciting in the future<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>It can be easy to forget that as bad as things are right now, they WILL get better one day. This isn\u2019t going to last forever. Eventually, life will go back to normal.<\/p>\n<p>In the meantime, one thing you can do to support your mental health is to give yourself a goal for the future that you can start working on <em>now<\/em>. Not only will you have something exciting to look forward to, it\u2019ll keep you motivated and occupied while you\u2019re socially distancing.<\/p>\n<p>For instance, maybe you\u2019ve always had dreams of becoming a professional <a href=\"\/blog\/2020\/03\/the-job-description-of-an-event-planner\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">event and wedding planner<\/a>. You may even want to someday start your own business. Well, you can always work towards this goal right now! You can take online courses from a reputable planning school, and <a href=\"\/blog\/2020\/03\/maximize-your-time-at-home-by-getting-an-event-planning-certificate\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">earn your event planning certificate<\/a>!<\/p>\n<p>(Then again, maybe schooling is <em>adding <\/em>to your stress lately. If that\u2019s the case, there\u2019s nothing wrong with taking a break from it, too! You can always go back to it once you\u2019re feeling ready.)<\/p>\n<p>Whatever your aspirations are, it\u2019s important that you never give up on them. Your dreams can be one of the very best things to help get you through a difficult time! Pick one that means a lot to you, and keep your sights set on it.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Bonus_Things_you_probably_shouldnt_do_but_would_admittedly_be_hilarious\"><\/span>Bonus: Things you probably <em>shouldn\u2019t <\/em>do, but would admittedly be hilarious<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Have you reached that tell-tale level of boredom yet where you think to yourself, \u201cI\u2019m going to disguise myself in a T-Rex costume and see if I blend in outside\u201d?<\/p>\n<p>Because that\u2019s exactly what <a href=\"https:\/\/globalnews.ca\/news\/6708504\/t-rex-costume-coronavirus-spain\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">a man in Spain recently did<\/a>! Why? Well, he wanted to take his trash out. But with his city under a strict lockdown, that wasn\u2019t an option. Until he remembered that there WAS a loophole: pet owners were still allowed to take their dogs on short walks.<\/p>\n<p>Apparently, though, prehistoric dinosaurs are <em>not <\/em>the same thing as dogs. The man wasn\u2019t outside for very long before he was arrested. Still, it makes for truly <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=nqaxSZfrGPE\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">entertaining footage<\/a> \u2013 and many of his neighbors did get quite the chuckle from his little escapade!<\/p>\n<p>Funny enough, there\u2019s <em>another <\/em>story \u2013 also, ironically, that took place in Spain \u2013 of a man who had a somewhat <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailymail.co.uk\/news\/article-8126695\/Man-defies-Spains-state-emergency-tries-fool-police-trying-walk-toy-dog.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">different plan<\/a> to try and bypass the quarantine law. He so badly wanted some fresh air that he attempted to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsweek.com\/coronavirus-spain-quarantine-walk-toy-dog-1493193\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">take a STUFFED ANIMAL for a walk<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>My guess is, he was hoping authorities would think it was a dog? Either way, his plan failed spectacularly, and he too was reprimanded by the police.<\/p>\n<p>(Slightly off topic, but I feel like he and T-Rex Man <em>need<\/em> to connect on Facebook and become best friends.)<\/p>\n<p>We should probably reiterate that under NO circumstances are we encouraging you to break the law. While definitely amusing, these are also 2 examples of things you probably shouldn\u2019t do\u2026 Unless you <em>are <\/em>allowed outside. Then please do this, and take pictures.<\/p>\n<p>If nothing else, we hope this put a smile on your face. Perhaps there\u2019s a sense of comfort in knowing that you are not alone.<\/p>\n<p>Our point is, your mental health is important. The importance of finding healthy ways to cope during the COVID-19 crisis, and focusing on YOU, cannot be overstated.
