I have lived here my entire life, except for the four years I spent in Deland, Florida, at Stetson University. I love everything about my country, and I&#8217;m so happy I returned here to start my adult life and career!<\/p>\n<p>I currently own my own business, <em>Lake Management Concepts<\/em>, which specializes in <a href=\"\/online-event-courses\/event-planning\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">event planning<\/a>, as well as planning for <a href=\"\/blog\/2019\/12\/the-difference-between-event-planning-and-event-management\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">small business star-ups<\/a>. Entrepreneurial life is quite demanding, and at times, super stressful. But the rewards gained are definitely worth it all!<\/p>\n<p>In my spare time I enjoy trying new foods, travelling, and reading.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Why_did_you_decide_to_become_a_professional_event_and_wedding_planner\"><\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">Why did you decide to become a professional event and wedding planner? <\/span><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>I started doing <a href=\"\/online-event-courses\/corporate-event-planning\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">event management<\/a> for one of my social media clients, back in December of 2017. I already had prior knowledge of the industry because of my father. Upon my return from University, with a double major in finance and accounting, I&#8217;d actually vowed <em>never<\/em> to venture into the event industry!<\/p>\n<p>But life had a different plan for me! After that one event, I enjoyed it so much that I started getting my name out there, and pursuing it <a href=\"\/blog\/2020\/03\/the-job-description-of-an-event-planner\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">as a career<\/a>. In fact, I recently posted my certificate and I was <em>amazed<\/em> by the amount of calls and messages I got about the course! Corporate events are also great <a href=\"\/blog\/2016\/09\/4-best-networking-tips-planners\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">networking<\/a> events, in which you get to meet very influential people within the corporate world. Any tips for aspiring planners, regarding how to find work when first starting out?<\/span><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Networking is a key element of breaking into the world of event planning!<\/p>\n<p>Meeting <a href=\"\/blog\/2017\/09\/5-professionals-event-planners-network\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">new people<\/a> and putting yourself out there is the only way to really become known, and to get experience. For the first year and a half, I barely utilized <a href=\"\/blog\/2020\/05\/5-ways-event-planning-pros-should-leverage-social-media-during-covid-19\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">social media<\/a>. But I continued to network and build my portfolio on the sideline. Those small networking ventures went a long way, and that has definitely helped me to get where I am now!<\/p>\n<p>Also, I would recommend trying to get as much experience as you can <em>before<\/em> you venture out onto your own. At times, I wished I had more hands-on experience before I had started my own business. Not doing so meant that I was forced to learn along the way. Gaining prior experience first will help you avoid some <a href=\"\/blog\/2019\/02\/mistakes-all-rookie-event-planners-make-their-first-year\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">common rookie mistakes<\/a>!<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"How_would_you_describe_your_style_of_planning\"><\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">How would you describe your style of planning? <\/span><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>I would describe my style of planning as situational. Each client is different, and therefore requires different planning styles.<\/p>\n<p>I always start with a <a href=\"\/blog\/2015\/11\/top-questions-to-ask-at-every-client-consultation-free-download\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">consultation<\/a>, in order to best understand the wants and needs of my clients. Then I follow up with a <a href=\"https:\/\/reformette.com\/blog\/2018\/7\/17\/how-to-make-a-mood-board#:~:text=Mood%20boards%2C%20or%20inspiration%20boards,of%20a%20project%20or%20event.&amp;text=Making%20a%20mood%20board%20is,giving%20your%20wardrobe%20a%20makeover.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">mood board<\/a>. I discuss the mood board with my clients, and they tell me their likes and dislikes. In your opinion, what\u2019s the most appealing part about incorporating this additional service into your business?<\/span><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>I love seeing people happy, and a weddings is one of the happiest moments in a couple&#8217;s life! An opportunity to ensure that I make this a reality for them is probably the most appealing part. I enjoy seeing things unfold from conceptualization to execution.<\/p>\n<p>I also think <a href=\"\/blog\/2020\/05\/overcoming-adversity-becoming-a-wedding-planner-during-covid-19\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">the wedding industry<\/a> is the hardest area of the event industry, and I am up for the challenge it poses!<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"What_was_the_most_challenging_part_of_earning_your_online_event_planning_certification_and_what_was_the_most_rewarding\"><\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">What was the most challenging part of earning your online event planning certification, and what was the most rewarding?<\/span><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>I think the most challenging AND the most rewarding aspect of my online learning experience with QC was how <a href=\"\/blog\/2020\/02\/how-to-excel-in-your-event-and-wedding-planning-course\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">extensive and thorough<\/a> the course was! It was situational, so it definitely had me putting myself in the shoes of the professional planner I was working to become. I had to learn how to execute the right decisions.<\/p>\n<p>It was challenging at times, because each situation is different and there\u2019s no one real answer. However, it also forced me to get super creative and think outside the box. You need to be able to suggest to your clients what would work and what wouldn\u2019t.<\/p>\n<p>I actually started doing <a href=\"\/blog\/2020\/04\/why-event-decor-training-is-essential-to-your-event-planning-career\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">event decor<\/a> within the last year. It&#8217;s definitely is a huge help to understand and have the eye for decor when planning. It gives you a more complete idea of the event itself! You can suggest and recommend decor ideas, based on your experience, and help take your client&#8217;s special occasion to a whole new level!<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"What_made_you_want_to_get_your_online_event_planning_certification_and_why_did_you_choose_QC_Event_School\"><\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">What made you want to get your online event planning certification, and why did you choose QC Event School?<\/span><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>During COVID-19, the event industry was shut down <a href=\"\/blog\/2020\/03\/how-the-coronavirus-outbreak-is-affecting-the-event-planning-industry-part-2\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">to the bare minimum<\/a>. All the events were cancelled. I actually had 5 weddings booked within the first 3 months of COVID-19 that had to be postponed!<\/p>\n<p>So, I thought to myself: <em>Y<\/em><em>ou know what, I\u2019ve never had the time to get my certification before. So, why not <a href=\"\/blog\/2020\/03\/maximize-your-time-at-home-by-getting-an-event-planning-certificate\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">give it a try now<\/a> and see what I may learn? <\/em><\/p>\n<p>I did so much research looking at the best courses to enroll in. After 3 days of searching, I finally decided that <a href=\"\/about-qc\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">QC Event School<\/a> was the number one choice. I enrolled, and the knowledge I&#8217;ve since gained has been impeccable. It was an amazing course! Physically and mentally gearing up to do something that&#8217;s unknown, and not knowing if it&#8217;ll be successful or not, is the most challenging hurdle to get over.<\/p>\n<p>However, I believe that once you put your mind to it, anything is possible! Before, I always had this mindset that the market is so saturated, it would be<em> impossible<\/em> for me to get business. However, through experience, I\u2019ve learned that there&#8217;s room for everyone!<\/p>\n<p>Beyond that, I will admit that running your own business is a very demanding job. It requires sleepless nights, and missing out on many important events in your personal life. But I consider it a small sacrifice for long-term happiness.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"To_date_whats_been_your_proudest_moment_so_far_as_a_professional_event_planner\"><\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">To date, what\u2019s been your proudest moment so far as a professional event planner?<\/span><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Back in 2018, when I was first starting up, I was hired as <a href=\"\/blog\/2015\/11\/taking-your-bu-or-assistants\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">an assistant<\/a> to a professional planner. Our client was one of the largest conglomerates in the country. My role as the assistant sometimes felt as though I was the <em>actual<\/em> planner. This was because the actual event planner was so busy with so many other aspects of the project. Due to this, I quickly became the main liaison with the client.<\/p>\n<p>They saw how hardworking and dedicated I was throughout the project. After the event, I kept in touch with them. A year later, they decided to do the event again &#8211; but instead of hiring the original planner, they gave <em>me<\/em> the role of lead planner! It was an extremely proud moment for me because I went from being an assistant, to being the lady in charge.<\/p>\n<p>I always tell this story, not for bragging rights, but to remind everyone: don\u2019t ever let a position discourage you into thinking you aren\u2019t good enough.
