Hire a planner!<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Hiring a <a href=\"\/blog\/2020\/04\/5-tips-for-getting-the-most-out-of-your-certified-wedding-planner\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">certified wedding planner<\/a> who specializes in destination events will help you a great deal! It\u2019s their job to sort out all the many fine details, so that YOU can simply sit back and enjoy the experience.<\/p>\n<p>One such responsibility that your certified wedding planner would take care of would be vetting potential <a href=\"\/blog\/2018\/12\/how-to-find-the-perfect-vendors-for-your-event-career-in-event-planning\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">vendors and suppliers<\/a>. They\u2019ll rely on their experience and industry expertise to ensure that only the best professionals are hired; ones who will best fit your vision, needs, and budget.<\/p>\n<p>If hiring a certified wedding planner is within your budget, I highly recommend this! Having a reputable expert by your side throughout the process is an invaluable asset! It\u2019ll save you so much time \u2013 and not to mention, your sanity!<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"2_Your_chosen_resorthotelvenue_might_be_your_best_friend\"><\/span><strong>2. Your chosen resort\/hotel\/venue might be your best friend!<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Fun fact: if you\u2019ve already picked a destination <a href=\"\/blog\/2017\/05\/event-planners-venue-7-things\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">venue<\/a> and have secured your wedding date, you may actually have the majority of your vendors already selected, too.<\/p>\n<p>Most destination venues have a preferred vendor list, in order to make the selection easier for you, the client. If it\u2019s a resort wedding, some of your vendors may already be included in your venue\u2019s packages or services.<\/p>\n<p>And if your venue\/hotel\/resort DOESN\u2019T offer this to you? They\u2019re still a great source for local talent! Do your research!<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>That can all be done by searching wedding blogs, wedding forums, and even <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pinterest.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Pinterest<\/a>! All of these resources provide awesome information on vendors and suppliers \u2013 whether it be locally, or in the area of your destination wedding.<\/p>\n<p>Many wedding forums even have vendor sections you can search through, specifically in the area your intending to marry in. This can be extremely helpful!<\/p>\n<p>Another resource you can take advantage of is <a href=\"\/blog\/2017\/03\/find-event-planning-inspiration\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">social media<\/a>. For instance, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Instagram<\/a> is great for finding suppliers and vendors. Social media provides you the unique opportunity to see just how much is available out there. Look at hashtags for your venue, <a href=\"\/online-event-courses\/event-decor\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">event decor<\/a>, and other suppliers in that area!<\/p>\n<p>This will let you find other industry pros and businesses, and even allow you to get an idea of their reputation with past clients.<\/p>\n<p>Lastly, make sure that when you\u2019re in the research phase, you\u2019re looking <em>only <\/em>at vendors <a href=\"\/blog\/2019\/03\/how-to-pull-off-a-destination-wedding-planning-budget\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">within your budget<\/a>. Nothing is more frustrating than falling in love with a vendor\u2019s work, only to find out that they\u2019re not attainable financially!<\/p>\n<h3><strong>4. Get referrals from past couples!<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Word of mouth and references from married couples can be wonderful for your personal research. I find that you can get a lot of perspective by asking married couples you know personally \u2013 or even using some of the online wedding forums I mentioned above \u2013 about which suppliers they\u2019ve used in the past and were happy with.<\/p>\n<h4><em><strong>Pro Tip: <\/strong>You\u2019ll be likely to obtain the most honest recommendation if you ask a couple for feedback shortly after their wedding day. This is because at that point, they have nothing to lose. Usually, when they\u2019re still in the planning stage, everything is going great. The REAL deal is asking right after the wedding is over. This way, the couple has had time to reflect. Read reviews!<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>When it comes to finding vendors for your <a href=\"\/blog\/2019\/06\/skip-these-5-destination-wedding-expenses-you-dont-need\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">destination wedding<\/a>, it\u2019s critical to read about what <em>other <\/em>couples have said about their business!<\/p>\n<p>Most vendors have testimonials on their website. However, you\u2019ll need to dig deeper than that. Most professionals don\u2019t make a habit of posting negative reviews on their business websites. After all, they have an image to maintain! The problem is that if you rely solely on their site reviews, you may not be seeing the bigger picture.<\/p>\n<p>Instead, read reviews on different wedding forums. Look up their ratings on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.ca\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Google<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.yelp.ca\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Yelp<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.weddingwire.ca\/?cmp=ADW-Branding&amp;gclid=EAIaIQobChMIy_u2xJ6W6gIVkYbACh2MZgwNEAAYASAAEgLfv_D_BwE\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Wedding Wire<\/a>. Check them out on social media platforms, such <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Facebook<\/a>. All of this will provide you with a more honest insight.<\/p>\n<p>That being said, try to remember to stay realistic. A vendor doesn\u2019t have to have perfect 5-star reviews (even though that <em>does<\/em> help). As long as their reviews from other couples are all positive and consistent, that\u2019s what\u2019s important!<\/p>\n<p>If the reviews are mixed, or you find them to be <a href=\"\/blog\/2014\/11\/handle-bad-reviews\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">mostly negative<\/a>, move on. It\u2019s not worth any additional stress. All it means is that your ideal destination vendor is still out there!<\/p>\n<h3><strong>6. Meet with Them In-Person!<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>If the vendor is local, or you have the opportunity to travel to your destination prior to the wedding, it\u2019s always beneficial to set up a face-to-face meeting!<\/p>\n<p>However, this is not always an option. Especially in light of what\u2019s been going on in the world the past few months, traveling may not be the safest choice just yet. In any event, if you can\u2019t meet with them physically, you still have alternatives!<\/p>\n<p>For starters, <a href=\"\/blog\/2020\/05\/overcoming-adversity-becoming-a-wedding-planner-during-covid-19\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">virtual meetings<\/a> (such as through <a href=\"https:\/\/zoom.us\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Zoom<\/a> or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.skype.com\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Skype<\/a>) can easily do the trick, too! Even meeting with them electronically provides you with the opportunity to put a face to the name, ask questions, discuss your wedding plans, and get a feel for the vendor.<\/p>\n<p>See if you click!
