Getting to know you better will help me understand how you approached the assignment as a whole. For instance, I want to know:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Who you are<\/li>\n<li>What moves and inspires you<\/li>\n<li>What your lifestyle is like<\/li>\n<li>Where you turn for inspiration<\/li>\n<li>What aspects of your personality led you to pursue a career in the event planning industry, etc.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>I also want to know why you chose to take <em>this<\/em> course, in particular &#8211; and what you hope to get out of it. Understanding all of these things will help me provide feedback that\u2019s customized to YOUR unique needs and goals.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"2_%E2%80%93Make_sure_your_event_decor_mood_board_is_cohesive_and_comprehensive\"><\/span>2 &#8211;<strong>Make sure your event decor mood board is cohesive and comprehensive.<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>The best events aren\u2019t just \u201cpretty parties\u201d. They\u2019re a cohesive collection of experiences that communicate a couple\u2019s story. Start the process from the very first guest touch point (i.e. save the dates or wedding invitations), all the way to the very last touch point (the \u201csend off\u201d moment or late-night entertainment). I want your mood board to take me on a detailed, distinct, and <em>beautiful<\/em> journey. It should cover every last aspect of the event itself; from the <a href=\"\/blog\/2016\/05\/things-every-venue-wishes-new-event-planners\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">venue<\/a> and <a href=\"\/blog\/2017\/07\/quick-guide-floral-design-event-planners\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">floral elements<\/a>, to the couple\u2019s outfits, etc.<\/p>\n<p>By the time I\u2019m done absorbing it, I should have a clear understanding of the unique look, feel, and emotions that the celebration will both capture and convey.<\/p>\n<h4>Pro Tip: Design your mood board with an eye towards consistency. Don\u2019t pin fine-art images for a rustic-themed event. Even if there\u2019s a certain element of a photo you like, the overall image still needs to fall in line with the event aesthetic. If it doesn&#8217;t, don\u2019t include it. Design consistency is <em>key<\/em> when it comes to planning and producing high-end weddings!<\/h4>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"3_%E2%80%93_Write_your_event_decor_assignment_as_if_you_were_communicating_with_a_client\"><\/span>3 &#8211; <strong>Write your event decor assignment as if you were communicating with a client.<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>My students know that I\u2019m a wedding professional. As such, they sometimes make the mistake of thinking that they don\u2019t <em>need<\/em> to walk me through their decisions in the same way they would <a href=\"\/blog\/2017\/01\/wow-event-planning-clients-customer-service\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">with a client<\/a>. But this couldn\u2019t be further from the truth! I want your assignment to be <em>incredibly<\/em> detailed! It needs to have correct spelling and grammar. It should include thorough and thoughtful information. For instance, explain why you\u2019ve selected certain elements of event decor. More importantly, break down <em>how<\/em> your decor choices will tie into the overall event aesthetic.<\/p>\n<p>Ultimately, I want you to create the couple\u2019s story to their guests.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"4_%E2%80%93_Ensure_the_event_is_well_conceptualized\"><\/span>4 &#8211; <strong>Ensure the event is well conceptualized.<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>The best assignments will show me that thought was put into <a href=\"\/blog\/2020\/04\/why-event-decor-training-is-essential-to-your-event-planning-career\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">conceptualizing the event as a whole<\/a>. Don&#8217;t simply think, <em>I\u2019m going to choose a fine-art wedding<\/em>, and then pin every fine-art image you can find. Rather, I want a <em>true <\/em>translation of the client\u2019s vision! Ideally, you&#8217;ll show me this in your description and\/or mood board.<\/p>\n<p>There should be a clear purpose and meaning behind everything you\u2019ve put together. The deeper the meaning, the better. Go beyond surface-level aesthetics! Consider the sorts of things that will tug on your client\u2019s heart strings.
