Tell us a little bit about yourself!

I come from a big family, and I am proudly South African. All my family is still in South Africa, but I have met some amazing people on this side of the world that have become my second family. I moved to Houston almost two years ago and am currently in school and working.

I completed the event and wedding planning course online so that I was able to both work and study to achieve my career goals.

Why did you decide to go into event planning? What about it appeals to you?

I wanted to go into event planning because I love interacting with new people. This way I get to deal with a variety of my clients and vendors. Helping people plan their events and watching their dreams come to life is exciting for me. Every event will be different and have different challenges I have to face and overcome.

Did you have any misconceptions about learning Event & Wedding Planning online?

When I first started the course, I didn’t realize how many moving parts there are that go into the event. I wasn’t too sure about which parts of the event would be my responsibility to organize and which parts fall onto the clients. I like how you have to work with your clients through the whole process to ensure that they will be as happy and proud of the event as you are.

As I worked though the course, I liked how involved you, as the event planner, are in the event. I liked the way the wedding timeline was broken down step-by-step and the event programming was broken down to ease you into the process.

How do you think QC Event School has prepared you for working in the field?

I think QC Event School has prepared me by making sure that we used real locations and vendors in our assignments. This helped me be more aware of how much vendors and equipment actually cost to hire so that I was more focused on sticking to the budget.

I liked the way that every activity assigned to us was always different than the one before. This helped us know that the events will never be the same because the clients will not want the same thing or have the same budget.

What’s your favorite part of the wedding planning process?

My favorite part of the wedding process is choosing the theme or designs for the wedding. I get really excited when it comes to designing what the wedding is going to look like. I love picking out the decorations that bring the wedding to life. This part is extremely special because it makes every wedding and event unique. Seeing the way all the colors and ornaments fit together the way that you and your client envisioned it is like magic.

Congratulations on becoming a QC Event School graduate! What do you think the future holds for you and your business?

I would like to open up my own event planning business but with a focus on wedding planning. One day, I would like to have my own beautiful wedding venue and rent it out at an affordable rate. This way, clients from many different income backgrounds can afford their dream wedding. That’s my long-term goal.

But when I first start out, I would like to work with someone who has been in the business for a while. This way, they would be able to share their tips on how to be successful and show me the ropes. Once I feel that I have found my way and am more confident in the skills I learnt in QC Event school, I will go out on my own.
