As a luxury event planner, client experience is everything. Even with 20 years of experience under my belt, I’m still constantly on the hunt for ways I can elevate the client experience I provide. Since I produce high-end affairs for dignitaries, celebrities, and adventurous couples from across the world, this is always critical to me. As part of that never-ending desire to level up, I realized 7 years ago that adding floral design services to my event planning business would give me an incredible opportunity to enhance the experience I offered clients. Over the years, this has proven to be the case!

As such, I want to share some of the reasons behind that important decision. Read on to learn a bit about my thought process. Then you can decide if YOU might want to eventually offer floral design as part of your event planning services as well!

Why I Added This Service to My Event Planning Business

1) Floral design gave me the opportunity to grow and challenge myself!

The best event professionals are constantly evolving. Regardless of how much experience you have, or how many unforgettable affairs you’ve produced, there is always room for improvement! Adding event floristry to my wedding planning and design offerings was an opportunity to grow and to challenge myself. I didn’t want to remain stagnant and live with the status quo.

In an industry where things are constantly changing, it’s important that you always look for ways to grow and change as well. Perhaps this will be through ongoing education. Maybe you’ll alter your offerings to better reflect your ideal client’s needs, or add an entirely new service altogether. Perhaps you’ll do all of these things!

2) Floral design fascinated me!

Yes, it’s important to look for opportunities to elevate your services and keep your clients coming back for more. But it’s just as important that you look for ways to also keep you coming back for more! Event planning is an incredibly demanding job. Getting burnt out in this line of work is a very real possibility. A great way to avoid this is to look for ways you can keep your passion ignited.

For me, floral design truly fascinated me. I love working with flowers, and incorporating them into event design in a purposeful and powerful way. The best advice I can offer students is to listen to your heart and follow what fascinates you! Maybe it’s calligraphy and stationery; maybe it’s art or architecture. Whatever it is, find ways to work that interest into your career!

3) Floral design allowed me to take my weddings and events to the next level!

Floral design takes every wedding and event to the next level by creating immersive experiences that are not only seen, but felt. After all, you’re not simply hired to create a pretty party. Your job is to create a feeling that your clients and their guests will remember.

Florals are one of the most important ways you can take an event from a celebration to an actual experience. For me, meaning is everything when I produce an event. So, when working with florals, my team is always on the lookout for ways to defy gravity with eye-catching installations. We use floristry to communicate a couple’s love story by choosing florals that are a nod to their heritage or hometown. Our goal is always to create an immersive, one-of-a-kind experience that will leave a lasting impression for years to come.

4) Floral design allowed me to serve my clients in a more comprehensive way!

As someone who works with high-end clients to produce luxury affairs, it made sense to incorporate floral design services. This way, I could offer my clients a more streamlined and seamless process. I want every step of the planning process to feel effortless. I want my clients to enjoy their celebration, rather than be filled with stress and setbacks. This is the true value that luxury event planning adds to the clients’ lives.

For me, adding floral services to my offerings allowed me to serve my clients in a more comprehensive, elevated fashion. Plus, I didn’t want to have to hire out or send my clients elsewhere for such a pivotal part of their overall event design. By keeping things under one roof, I can make the event planning process even more enjoyable for my clients. Not to mention, I have far more quality-control over the floral aspect of the event itself. It’s a total win-win!

I hope this helps, event-extraordinaires to-be! When I started working floral design into my wedding and event planning packages, I learned as I went along. I had to finesse my process and rely on trial-and-error to figure out what best served both me and my clients. If you start off incorporating floristry from the beginning, though, know that there will of course be a learning curve. After all, this is the case with anything. But you’ll ultimately be miles ahead of the game – especially when compared to those who don’t add floral design to their business.

I can’t wait to see what lies ahead for all of you!

Xoxo,

-Mwai
